Included tour description: Antigua Guatemala Tour
We invite you to discover La Antigua Guatemala, formerly known as the city of Santiago de Los Caballeros during colonial times. A fascinating destination rich in history, where you can experience its full splendor. This city was partially destroyed by the Santa Marta earthquakes in 1773, and in 1979, Antigua was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll along its cobblestone streets and step back 300 years in time.
During the tour, you will admire Colonial Architecture starting at the Central Park, the old Royal Plaza, where bullfights and merchants once gathered near the Cathedral. Antigua boasts numerous ruins and restored colonial buildings, showcasing a fraction of its former grandeur. A highlight is the Cathedral, which has undergone structural changes over time. Its Baroque façade, with Mannerist and Renaissance details, impressive height, and intricate imagery, is truly remarkable.
You will also have the opportunity to visit a Jade factory and the Handicraft Market, where you can find a wide variety of Guatemalan folk art in different forms such as stone, gold, wood, wax, glass, silver, textiles, and more. Most of these items are handmade and available in shops, markets, and from street vendors.
