Come to Decameron’s jungle lodge in Parque Nacional Natural Amacayacu and experience the Amazonian jungle close up. A short walk from a facility housing scientists studying the indigenous wildlife, the jungle lodge is designed to put guests in touch with the surrounding jungle while not harming the delicate eco-system around it.
The Amazon covers more than six million square kilometers, forming the beautiful valley of the majestic Amazon River, inhabited by more than two million different species of animals, plants, and insects.
Amacaycu, better known as the river of the hammocks in the Quechua dialect, is a natural reserve spread over 293,000 hectares and home to 150 different species of mammals, including the pink river dolphin and others at risk of extinction such as the Brazilian tapir, jaguar, manatee, otter, and the titi leoncito (miniature monkey). One never forgets a magical trip to the Amazon.
Just 11 km from the Amazonian city of Leticia, you will find Cerca Viva Reserve. The Ecotourism Program offers hiking through an eco-trail called “The Dynamic Jungle”. It has been designed as an area of environmental education & understanding that informs and illustrates its visitors about the dynamics of the rainforest and the complex merger between the large biodiversity of life that occupies it. It is highly probable to encounter an incredible variety of different insects, different species of birds, “bloquiblancos” monkeys, poisonous frogs, serpents, guaras, and squirrels, to name but a few. Passing through the trails of the Saltarines, the Boquiblancos, the Quebrada, the Siringa, and the Ranas, you will learn the importance and need to conserve and control the recourses of the ecosystem, so that future generations will also be able to experience and enjoy this marvelous ecosystem: The Amazon Jungle.
